Biography

Laura discovered the world of the photographic darkroom in 1970 in the basement of the Stanford University art gallery, where she took an introductory photo class taught by Leo Holub. After graduating with a biology degree, she held various jobs including a decade-long stint as a science writer with Stanford Medical Center's News Service. Sometimes she took photographs to accompany her articles, and these images appeared in Stanford publications as well as in local and national newspapers and periodicals.

While devoting herself to raising a family, and attending to some serious health matters for several decades, she tried to make time for artistic expression, experimenting with video and botanical drawing. Recently she resumed photographic studies at Foothill College and Stanford's Continuing Studies Program, where she has worked with a number of distinguished photographers including Kate Jordahl, Elizabeth Opalenik, Keith Lee, Ron Herman, Margaretta Mitchell, Joel Simon, Adam Katseff, the late Richard Gordon, and others.

She has exhibited work at Jadite Gallery (New York), PHOTO Gallery (Oakland), Rayko Gallery (San Francisco), Triton Museum, Santa Clara, Stanford University (Palo Alto), Pacific Art League (Palo Alto), Foothill College (Los Altos), PhotoCentral (Hayward), as well as in the online gallery of the Center for Photographic Art (Carmel). In 2015 she was a Photolucida top 200 Critical Mass Finalist, and won first place in Foothill College's annual Mike Ivanitsky Award for Excellence in Photography competition.

Laura was born in Princeton, NJ and grew up at Stanford, CA.
